This week has felt like it would never end. I had to work long hours at work this week, plus my sinuses have been acting up so badly and just making me feel in general like crap, so by Friday I was worn out! Usually I go grocery shopping early Saturday mornings to get it out of the way, but I have been in and out of sleep all day long. Unfortunately, we were out of many staples, so I had to make it to the grocery. My husband came with me, which is probably another reason we were over budget. I don't have a "set" amount every week, because I know it will vary based on the sales, but I didn't want to spend over $30 at Publix. Well, I forgot my shopping list at home, and I am still halfway out of it (I'm actually laying in bed right now :)), and we ended up spending $48.92, including tax. Sigh.
I also was not up to taking a picture when I got home, so I'll just give you just a few highlights:
- 2 boxes Orville Redenbacher popcorn and 2 jars Peter Pan peanut butter, $1.30-$1.50 each, had $1/2 popcorn store coupon, and $1.50/4 Conagra items
- Duncan Hines muffin mix, on sale $1.70, had $.35/1 MQ that doubled
- Pepperidge Farm milano cookies, on sale $2.50, had $1/1 MQ (usually wouldn't buy, but I convinced myself they would make me feel better)
- Arnold Oatnut bread, on sale $1.85
My husband had an idea while we were at the store to make shrimp tacos for dinner, since they are easy and we both weren't feeling great. It was either that or grab something on the way home. We already had the shrimp, but I had to buy tortillas, a tomato, sour cream, Mexican rice, cilantro, and limes at Publix. This added about $6 that I otherwise would not have spent. However, it's definitely healthier and probably cheaper than even grabbing some fast food, and since that was the alternative, I don't feel so guilty. Plus, it's nice to splurge on a favorite dish every once in awhile. Next week, I will do better with my budget!
